Ian Ali Art on Display Saturday
Thursday August 12,

Uncle Ian is gone but he is not forgotten. He lives on in his art pieces which will grace the Conference Centre of the Trinidad Hilton on Saturday. Sugar House will present an art exhibition, entitled Renaissance 2010, a compliation of Ali’s works and pieces from other private collections. It was in the making before the unexpected death of Ali in 2007. Ali, who was an internationally renowned artist, has had his paintings and sculptures featured in over a dozen exhibitions, locally and internationally, gaining critical acclaim and a devoted following. He has made an indelible mark in many artistic disciplines, such as a cultural activist, teacher, writer, illustrator, scout leader and television pioneer.

He was the first person in the Caribbean to bring art into the living room of Caribbean households with his television shows Rikki Tikki and Painting for Pleasure. Ali’s pioneering has made cultural history and has shaped the evolution of art in the Caribbean. Sugar House has expressed its gratitude to the Trinidad Hilton, Scrip-J, Fine Art Limited, AmaZing Designs Limited and Genie in a Bottle Productions for their role in bringing the works of this national cultural icon back to the people of the nation.
