Fashion Week T&T Announces New Board
By: Trinidad Guardian

Thursday January 13,

The new Fashion Week Trinidad and Tobago (FWTT) formally announced its board for 2011. Board members’ focus will be on advancing the business aspects of the fashion industry, including successful transitions from concepts to manufacture; advocating for developmental infrastructure; and showcasing the creative wealth of designers and other fashion stakeholders globally. To this end, the board has been expanded to include professionals from various disciplines who bring their expertise to the deliberations and programmes of FWTT.

FWTT founder and chairman, Diane Hunt and graphics specialist, Stephen Doobal, are joined in 2011 by Anthony Rahael, group CEO, RHL Group of Companies; fashion couturier, Claudia Pegas; foreign service professional and retired diplomat, Terrence Walker; CEO, Trinidad and Tobago Manufacturers’ Association, Natasha Mustafa Scott; creative director and advertising consultant of MarcAstuta Ltd, Leonardo Azzellino; Attorney-at-Law, Jennifer Hudson-Phillips; Professor Andrew M Ramroop, Master Bespoke Savile Row Tailor; General Manager of TV6-CCN, Shida Bolai; international trade specialist, Lawrence Placide; hotelier and former model, Gloria Jones-Knapp; fashion industry and foreign affairs specialist, Joanne Brooks; and strategic marketing consultant, Dayner Azzellino.

Fashion and media stalwart, Rosemary Stone continues her role as an honorary board member. The mandate of the diverse board is to extend the reach of the organisation, which was established in 2008 to develop the fashion industry into a local and regional force for economic development of all contributors to the T&T fashion product—from concept to design, to manufacture to market. FWTT, a non-profit organisation, has hosted three successful Fashion Weeks, bringing worldwide media and buyer attention to a unique Made in Trinidad and Tobago product.

Moving forward, FWTT seeks to actively frame and contribute to the skills development of all talents in the industry; advocate for developmental infrastructure such as competitive local manufacturing; position the local fashion industry globally; and provide avenues for success to practitioners and stakeholders. The upcoming FWTT4 is scheduled to take place in May and June. It will be FWTT’s premier event, and the highlight in a list of fashion focused activities that will serve as part of FWTT’s ongoing programme and commitment to effectively promoting creative and technological development in the industry.
