Dudus Extradition Fiasco Claims First Casualty

The Jamaica Labor Party intervention in the extradition case of accused drug lord, Christopher `Dudus` Coke has claimed its first victim.

The country`s Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Dr. Ronald Robinson, yesterday resigned with immediate effect even as tensions heighten in parts of Kingston over the arrest warrant issued for Coke.

Robinson, in a letter to Prime Minister Bruce Golding Thursday, said he was resigning due to his involvement in the Manatt, Phelps and Phillips affair as well as a medical condition concerning his wife.

Robinson said he resigned because his contact with the US based law firm could have been perceived as inappropriate. He accepted responsibility and apologized for his actions.

His resignation came more than a week after PM Golding, in an about face speech in the Jamaica Parliament, admitted a role as party leader, in lobbying against the extradition of Coke through the D.C-based law firm of Manatt, Phelps and Phillips. On Monday night, he apologized to the nation amidst calls in numerous quarters for his resignation.

Meanwhile, the extradition order for Coke has been approved and an arrest warrant issued but thugs in Tivoli Garden and Denham, Kingston are vowing a show down with law enforcement officials who try to enter the barricaded area to arrest the alleged Shower Posse leader.
