Pollard Okay After Blow
Wednesday August 18,

T&T and West Indies all rounder Keiron Pollard is fine after his nasty blow to the eye on Saturday, during the Friends Provident T20 finals against Hampshire at the Rose Bowl.

The all-rounder was rushed to Southampton Hospital Accident and Emergency Department after being struck by a short ball from Dominic Cork, which pierced the grille of his helmet. There was concern about Pollard’s eye and an ophthalmic expert was summoned to the hospital to examine him.

He was told to seek another ophthalmic examination when he gets home and Pollard who flew in to Trinidad on Sunday night from London, was given the good news yesterday.

Manager of the T&T cricket team Colin Borde who visited Pollard at home yesterday said: “Kieron is fine and will be able to resume his cricket very shortly. The results of the examinations showed that there were no fractures to the eye socket and also there was no damage to the retina.

“This is great news, the swelling has subsided and he is resting.”

As to his immediate future with the upcoming Airtel Champions League just weeks away, Borde said: “Pollard will be definitely joining his countryman Dwayne Bravo in South Africa to play with the Mumbai Indians in the Champions League.

“After a short rest he and Bravo will take off for South Africa on September 5, with the Champions league beginning on September 10.
